Love fern...

Remember my cutesy post about my pretty Valentines day tulips last week?

Doesn't that just break your heart?
ANDYKINS! Our love fern! You let it die!

Meanwhile, in the lonely Rachel world....

...culinary awesomeness is happening. I'm learning me some domestic skills while my future hubby is far away.

So this weekend my sister ran a 1/2 marathon in St. Georgey and everyone went down to support her and cheer her on. Everyone except me. At the last minute I decided to be a complete loser and stay home and catch up on homework.
When did I become so lame!?
I've basically been up to my eyeballs in acrylic gouache and graphite for 2 days. BUT! Artness is happening here. 3 major projects are getting done. Plus I had my apartment completely to myself so I got to watch Friends and sleep on the couch and eat ice cream for breakfast and sing super loud and walk around naked.....
Ha! Just kidding.
Or am I.....

Next post will hopefully be a proud documentation of my fantastical skills. Be prepared to critique, yahh?

Something Scary

Designing my own wedding dress.
That is scary.
Granted, I'm not the one physically sewing it...
But I created the idea, picked the material, and now I'm going to have to wear it.
Like seriously, I'll have to wear it. The money is down. There's no turning back here. I could look like Lady Gaga and I'd be forced to put it on my body and see it in every picture for the rest of my life.
Sometimes I have to question my artistic intelligence.

Today I went in for my very first fitting.
Uber excitement, right?
She has me put on a slip, and then the under-layer of the dress.
I freaked out.
I looked like this:
I was like
Hooooooooooooooooookay. No. Please please no. There are some days that i'm fine looking like a bodacious muffin, but May 5th is not going to be one of those days.

So after lots of humming and hawwwing and "excuse me but I'm insecure about some itty bitty things" we got it all fixed.

Now I'm excited again.
This is how I anticipate I'll look on my special day:

So pumped.

More to come on wedding plans. It's my favorite thing to think about right now, so you all get to just deal with it for 2 more months. HA!

Second Commission

Totes forgot to write about this,

My first was 2 summers ago when I worked at an animation studio in American Fork.
K, worked is an overstatement. They basically just trained me on how to use Maya for 6 hours a day (Maya being the most devilish 3D modeling computer software ever created). I never got paid, but they gave me 50 big ones for helping them design the interface for one of them facebook games. Super legit, right?

So my second commission story goes like this:
My fantastical big sister, Sarah, graduated from BYU last year and is a freelance writer/pre-school teacher. Her writing blog currently has 738 followers and she's pretty much a celebrity. But frankly her blog was quite unaesthetic. That is, until she paid me to tackle it! Fist pump!
I really should have taken a before/after screenshot. Alas, I'm not nearly that remember-ful. (Yeah I totally just made up that word because I couldn't think of a better one. Judge all you like)

Her request:
A city built on blue roses

What she got: (And I'm making it all big and sparkly and such to make you extremely tempted to click on it...)

It's been a while since I've done a music post.
Probably just because it's been a while since I've become absolutely obsessed with anyone, besides Andy. He's kinda distracting.
I think the last time I got obsessed with any music was Young the Giant back in October when I would listen to "My Body" and "I Got" over and over and over. Or maybe when I rediscovered my love for Phoenix and "Consolation Prizes" was on repeat for days.

It's time to introduce someone even cooler:
(pronounced go-tea-yay)

Reasons why he's awesome:
1. He's Australian. Anyone with that kind of accent makes me melt.
2. He doesn't try to conform to what's popular in music these days. In one of his interviews he said that he was surprised when "Somebody I Used to Know" became so wide-spread because he wasn't trying to play to anybody's interest. He just does what he loves.
3. I'm convinced that he is a vampire. Check out these canines!

Wouter de Backer. That's his actual real name.
Yeah, I would have made myself a stage name too.
He's originally from Belgium, but his family moved to Australia when he was younger.
..... I'm thuper jealous of that upbringing.
He's also a part of "The Basics" (check out With This Ship, that's a good one).
Gotye's been winning Australian music awards for years, but has just recently crossed over to America with his new album "Making Mirrors" (which, I've got to say, is the strangest album I've ever listened to. It goes from 80's pop to dubstep to brilliance like Somebody That I Used to Know. Not really sure what to think, but whatever, I'll listen to it. He's hot)
The name "Gotye" derived from "Gaultier", the French translation of "Wouter", which is his name. Yeh I totes just wikipedia'd that. Saved you a trip.

Get a taste of this:
And THIS:

No words.
And I gotta say, now is the best time to get to know him. He was on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Time is running out before he starts getting SUPER famous, then all you hipsters will lose interest.

Other music that's been on my playlist:

The Light is You, Said the Whale
Everlasting Light, The Black Keys
We Will All Be Changed, Seryn
Dead Hearts, Stars
Two Doves, Dirty Projectors
Came Out of a Lady, Rubblebucket
Thinking of You All Day, SHAKE YOUR PEACE
Wash in the Rain, Band of Bees
Firecracker, Steel Train

Merry February!
